ASU Delta Upsilon History

History of the Current
Arizona State Chapter

Late one night in 2001, Brother Jeremy Burdusis along with three others decided that they were going to start a fraternity at Arizona State University. These four future DU brothers founded Delta Tau which was to be unlike the other fraternities on campus. Delta Tau was to be a respected fraternity that did not survive on the grounds of degrading its new members but by treating them as equals. These men prided themselves on their chivalric-like actions when interacting with women and others at ASU. Soon however, the men of Delta Tau were told that they could only remain an active fraternity at Arizona State if they associated with a national sponsor.

Founders of Delta Tau

  • Cody Paris, Arizona State ‘05
  • Abdul Rahim Alawadi, Arizona State ‘04
  • Nathan Burgess, Arizona State ‘05
  • Rob Divito, Arizona State ‘05
  • Jason Szabo, Arizona State ’07 (First New member)

Colony Established-2002
Delta Tau soon found its national sponsor in Delta Upsilon. The men of Delta Tau chose Delta Upsilon because DU closely resembled the morals and ideals that they held. Delta Upsilon sent consultants to Arizona State to help colonize the chapter in the fall of 2002. After much hard work, the men of Delta Upsilon became a colony on December 7th, 2002.

Chapter Founded-2006
Soon after the colony was founded the numbers quickly decreased to a mere 6 members. Most fraternities simply close at this number, but the men of Delta Upsilon showed the heart and determination that allowed our fraternity to stay active. The group of 6 men quickly gathered a seven man pledge class that spurned the new growth of Delta Upsilon. These new members served as a breath of fresh air for the colony, allowing Delta Upsilon to become stronger and stronger each semester. After three years of hard work and determination the men of Delta Upsilon at Arizona State were granted the great honor of being an installed chapter of Delta Upsilon. On February 25, 2006 the men of Delta Upsilon were re-installed as an active chapter. The installation ceremony was held at the Newman Center on the campus of Arizona State.
